Regional coordinator of Haematology was appointed in Bourgas hospital since the beginning of this year.
Dr. Petya Shishkova comes from the Regional Center for Haematology in Stara Zagora. As a specialist with years of experience, she will be responsible for blood donation actions and provision of blood and blood components to the Bourgas region.
Department of Haematology in Bourgas hospital (known as blood center) is only one in the region of Bourgas. It supplies blood to all other hospitals and respond to need urgent blood transfusion in mass accidents, disasters and catastrophes.
In recent years the work of the department has grown at times. The number of blood donors each year increased on average by 8%. In 2010 their number was 6391, in 2014 - 8439 and in 2015 - about 9000. In addition coordinator in the department will soon be appointed and two doctors.
Last year in the Bourgas hospital began construction of a new Department of Haematology, to improve conditions for donors and for the personnel.
