Volunteers and doctors marked the International Day of rare diseases

For the fourth consecutive year, volunteers and doctors put together the International Day of rare diseases,

as hundreds of colorful balloons released into the sky above the hospital in Bourgas. Motto of the event this time was: "Join us to hear the voice of people with rare diseases".

Right at 13:00 on February 29 in front of the hospital Bourgas gathered children suffering from Gaucher disease, cystic fibrosis, pituitary dwarfism and thalassemia.

According to the Regional Health Insurance Fund the number of registered in the region with rare diseases is 64, and the 23 of them are children. But the real number exceeds this figure, because for many diseases are no special treatment that requires registration in RHIF. One disease is recognized as rare if it suffer less than 1 in 2000 people in Bulgaria.
