It launched the second archaeological season on Hrisosotira peninsula located in the eastern part of the village of Chernomorets, Sozopol municipality.
Archaeological studies are led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Hristov from the National History Museum.
For the second year studies focus on early Byzantine fortress built on the peninsula during the reign of Emperor Anastasius in the V century and lasted until the early seventh century. Fortress is covering an area of 63 acres and if necessary housed 2,000 people.
Archaeologists have studied the track 300 meters fortress wall. It has owned four towers, two of which are explored in this season. It’s coming under water expedition to explore the route of the wall and into the sea.
