They want 8 centuries-old Strandjan oak to be declared as protected

Eight centuries-old trees offer the Strandja NPP to become protected. These are monumental specimens of Strandja oak from the karst and dense form with dimensions over 150 cm in diameter (or over 450 cm in the trunk of the forest) in the forests of Zvezdets, M.Tarnovo and Gramatikovo village.

The proposal was made by the Directorate of Strandja Nature Park to the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Waters in Bourgas, prepared by Dr. Eng. Diko Patronov, Chief Specialist at the Directorate.

The Strandja oak is representative of the Pontic-Euxinian flora with the only distribution for the territory of Bulgaria - in Strandja. This species is included in the Biodiversity Act as a rare, relic type, spread in Asia Minor and the Caucasus.
