U.S. Humanitarian and Civic Assistance Program Funds Help Renovate the Roof of Prolet Kindergarten in the Town of Veliko Tarnovo

On Wednesday, August 19, COL Bruce Jennings, Deputy Chief of Staff of 412th Theater Engineer Command, United States Army Reserve, and

Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Mr. Daniel Panov will inaugurate the renovated roof of Prolet Kindergarten.

The project was completed jointly by soldiers of 390th Engineer Company, part of 412th Theater Engineer Command, and service members from the National Military University with the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense. The U.S. government provided funding for the project, which cost around $17,000 and provides a safer environment for 119 children who attend one of the largest kindergartens in the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.

Humanitarian and Civic Assistance projects are an excellent opportunity for enhancing interoperability between allies while addressing community needs and improving the quality of life of the civilian population.

In the last five years, the U.S. government has invested more than $3 million in Humanitarian Assistance Program projects in Bulgaria. These projects, as in this activity, often allow American and Bulgarian military troops to work together on community improvements.  Also under this program, the U.S. government partners with non-governmental organizations and local Bulgarian firms to fulfill these projects in accordance with Bulgaria’s social and economic development strategy.
