Medieval church discovered in Sozopol

Fresco from medieval church discovered archaeologists during rescue excavations preceding the construction of the plant in the town.

Some very well-preserved sections of the walls of the temple and metal cross warrant the archaeologist from BAS Yavor Ivanov and the Director of the Archaeological Museum in the town Dimitar Nedev to suggest that the church is from 9-10 century and it was the first opened outside the medieval walls of ancient Sozopolis.

Rescue excavations carried out under the project for the water cycle of Sozopol revealed many new and unique findings, which will be shown to the public in a special exhibition. Archaeological exhibition is planned for the celebration of the town , which is on July 17 th.
