Doctors in Hospital of Bourgas restored the broken patient's head

Complex operation of the Bourgas hospital doctors restored the face of a patient with multiple fractures.

 

The operation was made last Friday, but the man was already out of danger and is housed in the Department of Neurosurgery. With titanium implants and plates completely rebuilt the skull, facial bones and eye sockets.

Operated was 48-year-old man who fell from above. Since the fall he had broken more than 10 bones of the skull, face and eye orbits that were deep inside. He was admitted to hospital on 27 November and was operated by urgency of neurosurgeons - to remove the bones become trapped in the brain and blood clots. "The situation was very difficult, because at the first operation the man was in danger to be blind because it was broken the bone behind the eye, which not only affected the optic nerve," said Head of the Department of Neurosurgery Dr. Nikolay Nedev.

Nearly a week for patient cared the Department of Resuscitation because there was a danger to his life. But thanks to the efforts of the whole team he survived and can now undergo a second surgery for reconstruction of the skull.
