U.S. Government Helps Renovate Domestic Violence Crisis Center

The U.S. Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria is pleased to announce a partnership with the Bulgarian Center for Gender Research Foundation and the Municipality of Dimitrovgrad to assist victims of domestic violence.  

 

The U.S. Government is investing a total of 365,115 leva in this project under the auspices of the Department of Defense’s Humanitarian Assistance program. Thanks to this joint investment victims of domestic violence in Bulgaria will receive support, protection, and assistance at a critical juncture, helping them to move past abuse and victimhood. The center is one of only six in Bulgaria. The renovated facility has 7 accommodation rooms, a kitchen and dining facility, a living room, as well as offices for the counselors on site.    

In the last three years, the United States Government has invested over 4 million leva in various humanitarian assistance projects in Bulgaria. American and Bulgarian troops volunteer side-by-side to complete many of the projects. 

Media are invited to cover the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, which will take place at the Crisis Center, Town of Dimitrovgrad from 14:00 until 15:30 on Thursday, October 16, at 35, Zahari Zograf Street.  U.S. Ambassador Marcie B. Ries, Dimitrovgrad Mayor Ivo Simov and Haskovo Regional Governor Dobri Belivanov will participate in the ceremony.
