On Thursday, July 30, COL Doug Brantley, representing 194th Engineer Brigade, Tennessee Army National Guard, and Aytos Mayor Vasil Edrev
will inaugurate the renovated kindergarten in the village of Karanovo, Sungurlare Municipality, Burgas Region.
The work on the project was completed by both airmen of the 164th Civil Engineer Squadron, Tennessee Air National Guard, and sailors stationed at the Bulgarian Navy Base in Burgas. The total cost of the project is approximately $10,000, and will provide the 20 children a modern facility with new windows and doors, repainted nap-rooms and a playroom, and renovated bathroom facilities and entrance.
HCA projects are an excellent opportunity for enhancing interoperability between allies while addressing community needs and improving the quality of life of the civilian population.
In the last five years, the U.S. government has invested more than $3 million in European Command Humanitarian Assistance Program projects in Bulgaria. These projects often bring together American and Bulgarian military troops to work in a meaningful way. Also under this program, the U.S. government partners with non-governmental organizations and local Bulgarian firms to fulfill these projects in accordance with Bulgaria’s social and economic development strategy.
