U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Justin Friedman, together with Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, inaugurated today the renovated building of the Center for Specialized Educational Assistance in Burgas, Bulgaria.
The United States Government invested USD 113,000 in the renovations of the Center for Specialized Educational Assistance, formerly known as Otets Paisiy Auxiliary School. The Center provides daily help to 94 children with special needs. The renovations include complete refurbishment to all bathroom facilities on the first floor, upgrades to the gymnasium, construction of a wheelchair ramp, installation of an outside elevator, replacement of the front door, and installation of a front entrance canopy.
The Burgas Center project is directly related to the recently renovated Day Center for Youth with Disabilities, which was also renovated with U.S. government funds. Since 2010, the U.S. government has invested approximately $6 million in Humanitarian Assistance projects in Bulgaria.
The Humanitarian Assistance Program brings together American military troops and Bulgarian municipalities to collaborate on significant projects. Under this program, the U.S. government also partners with non-governmental organizations and local Bulgarian firms to carry out projects in accordance with Bulgaria’s social and economic development strategy.
